The Welsh Defence League (WDL) demo in Swansea on October 17 2009 attracted about 200 Welsh people intent on ‘standing up to the Taliban’, and predictably, at least twice as many United Against Fascism (UAF) supporters. The police kept the WDL contained against a Pizza Express (meaning an afternoon off for chefs and waiting staff), until finally marching them up the main street to the train station where they were separated in stages, dissolving the protest with no violent incidents between the two groups.
